Metabase is the easiest way for people to get insights from their data, from tiny startups who get up and running quickly to major corporations with tens of thousands of users. That's why people love us.

We bring data tools with the elegance and simplicity of consumer products to the crufty world of enterprise business intelligence. We provide an opinionated open source starting point for how companies should measure, analyze and share their data, which is used by tens of thousands of companies.

Tens of thousands of companies use Metabase every day to answer questions about their data. While we seek to become the de-facto self-managed open source analytics software for organizations everywhere, many customers want an ability to use Metabase without worrying about the operational details of self-hosting. Thatโ€™s why we recently launched our Metabase Cloud product. Weโ€™re looking for operations engineers to help build out and run our new and quickly growing โ€˜Metabase Cloudโ€™ hosted product.

You will:

  • Own and operate our application stack and AWS infrastructure to orchestrate and manage our hosted customer instances of Metabase

  • Develop and build our internal tooling and automation to manage the lifecycle of a hosted Metabase installation, from purchase to deployment, zero-downtime upgrades, and general operational health
  • Continuously improve our automated deployments and testing

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is thoughtful and careful
  • Compulsively automates everything and documents it
  • Is able to make solid technical judgements and back them up articulately
  • Has at least 5 years of experience building and operating production infrastructure, ideally on public cloud
  • Strong Kubernetes and AWS experience
  • Strong experience with IaC and Terraform
  • Can write high quality and readable code in a modern language (e.g. Python, Go, etc.)
  • Experience with modern monitoring stacks (e.g Prometheus/Grafana/Datadog)

Projects you could work on:

  • Multi-region hosting
  • Automate EKS cluster provisioning
  • Extend our CRDs and Operators
  • Improve the RDS sharding strategy for our multi-tenant platform
  • Unify and improve our CI/CD platforms
  • Collaborate with core application developers on changes to improve our application metrics, deployment speeds and CI integration.
  • Maintain our SOC2 compliance and security posture

We're a global team (50% outside the US), fully distributed (from Thailand to California), who get things done asynchronously, with plenty of uninterrupted time, supporting each other to do the best work of our careers. We offer flexibility (define your own schedule and work from wherever you want), autonomy, and an environment that fosters growth, learning, and development. We're relentlessly user-focused and believe in building long-term value, not short-term hacks. And we raised a $30M Series B to take our approach to the next level for years to come.

Smartcat is on a mission to become the wall-to-wall Language AI platform, addressing the diverse needs in multilingual content for various user personas within global enterprises.

Smartcat is uniquely positioned within the $100+ billion multilingual content industry, which is currently served by tens of thousands of agencies. This results in a highly fragmented and inefficient supply chain, high costs, unacceptable turnaround times, and quality issues. Using highly qualified internal resources to translate or create multilingual content (insourcing) solves the quality problem for enterprises, but if done manually, it can't solve for scalability, high cost, and slow turnaround.

Smartcat changes the ROI equation in favor of insourcing with its Language AI platform for enterprise end-users. It delivers high-quality, instantaneous AI translations or generates new content in any language by tapping into a customer-specific multilingual content library. The AI output is further refined through human editing by the client's internal reviewers or experts from the Smartcat's embedded global marketplace of linguists and content editors. This AI output continuously improves through the editing feedback loop, ensuring consistent and customer-tailored results.

More than 1,000 global companies including ~20% of the Fortune 1,000 trust Smartcat to communicate their innovations and ideas all over the world.

As a dynamic Series C company, Smartcat is growing at 130% YoY, thanks to the high and quick ROI it delivers to global enterprises. Mission:

To protect the organization by designing, implementing, and maintaining robust governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks. This role ensures our security practices align with regulatory requirements, mitigate risks, and build trust with customers and stakeholders. By fostering a culture of security and compliance, youโ€™ll play a key role in supporting the companyโ€™s growth and reputation.

Outcomes:

  • Support various compliance audits by coordinating with external auditors to understand audit requirements; providing sufficient artifacts to fulfill the auditorโ€™s request; and communicating with internal stakeholders for audit readiness and areas of improvement
  • Build relationships with a broad range of Smartcat employees at various levels to accomplish program objectives, educate them on their roles and responsibilities, and further Smartcat Security goals
  • Update and document changes to information security policies, procedures, and internal standards
  • Identify gaps between information security policies, procedures, and standards with control frameworks and communicates those gaps to the Head of Security and internal stakeholders
  • Support sales team by responding to security questionnaires

  • By Day 60: Review the existing set of Security policies and updating them according to company compliance status
  • By Day 90: Issuing ISO27001 SoA and establishing prioritized list of controls to establish

Key Requirements:

  • 4+ years of prior compliance experience:
    • Hands-on Information Security and/or security compliance experience with Information
    • Security standards, technology, and monitoring
  • Hands-on experience with implementing, reviewing, or auditing security frameworks such as SOC 1, SOC 2, ICFR/SOX, NIST, and/or ISO27001
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills, with the proven ability to communicate and translate technical concepts, requirements, and issues to technical and non-technical business audiences
  • Ability to manage demands of internal and external customers and auditors through phone, email, and process requests
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, and a problem solver
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize with little direct supervision
