Step-by-step guide to get UAE Digital Nomad Visa

You have to apply for a Dubai digital nomad visa online through the official website of Work Remote from Dubai. The application process is as follows:

  1. Prepare the required documents. The documents should be in English and digitized.
  2. Once you are in Dubai and have a valid phone number and temporary address, apply online for a virtual work permit (not visa) on the GDRFAD website, pay the application fees and wait for approval. Please note that the system only supports files up to 100 KB in size, so proper compression of your documents is critical. If your documents have multiple pages, you can upload each page separately.
  3. Wait for a response. Once submitted, you will be sent an email. There will be further instructions, so read them carefully. If your entry permit is not approved, you will be asked to submit additional documents. If you have any questions or disputes, we recommend that you contact the Jafiliya immigration office located near Al Jafiliya metro station in Dubai.
  4. Once your entry permit is approved, you must apply for a change of status. By far the easiest way to do this is to go to the nearest American center. To check the location of an American center near you, download the AMER app for iPhone or the AMER app for Android. AMER center managers will help you change the status of your entry permit and create an on-site virtual work visa application for you.
  5. Wait for a response. An email will be sent to you with payment instructions and amount.
  6. Pay the fees. The cost of the Dubai digital nomad visa is $611. This amount includes an application fee of $287 and other processing fees, health insurance fee and Emirates ID card. Once you enter your credit card details, you will receive an email inviting you to come to Dubai.
  7. During the visa application process, you will be asked to undergo a medical examination, which includes a blood test and chest x-ray. This can be done the same day; results are usually available within 24 hours. AMER center managers will make a reservation for you at one of the nearest visa medical centers, also called Medical Fitness Centers.
  8. Once your test results show that you do not have TB or AIDS, you will receive an email with your residency document.
  9. Your next step is to apply for an Emirates ID card. This can be done at the same AMER center. AMER staff will create an application for you and ask for a valid address for card delivery.
  10. You will also need to undergo a biometric scan, a mandatory procedure for anyone applying for an Emirates ID card. Biometrics is by appointment only at one of the ID card centers, such as the Al Ghazal Customer Happiness Center. AMER staff will book a time and provide you with all the necessary instructions.
  11. After completing this step, you need to wait for your Emirates ID card to be ready, which can take up to two weeks. You can check the status of your Emirates ID card on the Federal Office of Identification, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security website.
  12. Get a residence permit. The government should send you a text message notifying you that your residence permit is waiting for you at the post office. Get your residency permit and live in Dubai for one year.
  13. Once you receive your Emirates ID and can no longer be considered a tourist, you must take out local health insurance. You can do this directly through the website of an insurance company, such as Orient, or through an insurance agent and business partner, such as the FIDA Group.
